"Borodino" is one of the most famous poems by Lermontov. It tells the story, from the perspective of a Russian soldier, of the crucial and bloody battle of the Patriotic War of 1812 between the Russian army and Napoleon Bonaparte's army, which took place on August 26 (September 7 by the new style) near the village of Borodino, 125 km west of Moscow.
